'I like things to happen and if they don't happen, I like to make them happen'.
- Winston Churchill
This is a very Eight-ish thing to say as it sums up the Eight attitude to life which is that of action. They make things happen because they want to impose themselves on their environment. They have confidence and a certain uncomplicatedness - they say what they mean and mean what they say - that can drive things through. They do not leave much to guesswork in this respect and Winston Churchill's words reflect this completely. They are direct and uncomplicated, easy to understand. What Eights aren't good at is sitting back because they want to be in the driving seat and in control which means they naturally take the lead. With their indomitable spirit and enormous energy they are able to get others to follow them in their plans and projects and should they come up against obstacles they see them as a challenge rather than feeling defeated by them - in fact they actively like a challenge, their natural confidence insulating them to a certain extent from feelings of self-doubt or failure. It is arguable that perhaps no other character Type would have been able to not only stand up to Hitler but to mobilise and marshal the forces to defeat him. It was an extraordinary feat of leadership which saw the best of the Eight character in action. What Eights have to be careful of is that their force of character and the force of their actions do not tip over into domination or aggression. There is a difference between making things happen and forcing people to bend to your will.
