Emma

Pearson

I was trained in the Enneagram at the Enneagram Institute in the United States, gaining certification at the end of 2019.  My fascination with character was first explored through writing.  I have an MA in Playwriting from the University of Birmingham, UK, for which I received a scholarship and have written several plays for the theatre and a radio play which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4.

The writing experience has been my way of understanding people. It has been my investigation into why we behave the way we do, a feeling my way into the energy and motivations of character, the space they fill and how they stand on the earth.  For me, the Enneagram is very much an extension of this exploration and the truest exposition of all of the above that I have come across.  I also have a certificate in Humanistic Counselling from the Gestalt Centre, London, UK.

My Approach

I strongly believe that much unhappiness comes from not understanding ourselves.  If we want to learn a foreign language we accept that we have to spend time learning it and yet when it comes to personality and human nature we somehow expect to pick it up as we go along, in part because we think of it as essentially random and unfathomable.  But this is not so.  Personality has a structure and logic to it and can, therefore, be understood.   I think of the Enneagram as the language of personality.  When you start to understand it, a whole new world opens up.

Any work on understanding who we are is the greatest investment we will ever make because we can each be our greatest asset or our greatest challenge.  Inquiry into our true self is one of the most illuminating and fulfilling tasks of our existence, not only because it opens us to an awareness of our potential but because in learning about our own self we are also learning about others and the human condition which opens our hearts to greater understanding and compassion.

I donate 10% of my earnings from my Enneagram work to the following charities which I support. If you would like the contribution from our work together to go to one of these charities in particular let me know.
