'Here we are, the most clever species ever to have lived. So how is it we can destroy the only planet we have?''
- Jane Goodall, primatologist (Five)
Here we see the quality of thought of the Five. A different way of looking at something, a clarity of seeing. This particular insight may not be an unusual one anymore, in this particular time, but it is more pertinent than ever and Jane Goodall was way ahead of the curve in this respect through her work with chimpanzees. She speaks of the moment when 'staring into the eyes of a chimpanzee, I saw a thinking, reasoning personality looking back'. She was one of the first people to see animals in this way - as beings with the dignity of their own existence, an existence no lesser than our own.
