The Special Friend

The Social Role of the Two is that of the Special Friend. From the average levels downwards Twos define themselves in this way, craving closeness and intimacy. They want to be sought out and to feel that they have a special place in someone's heart. This often leads them to find ways of having something more to offer to others and it will tend to be something that can be personalised - so an ability to give tarot readings, to give a massage, some particular child care advice or a recommendation of a new vegetarian restaurant. They want to know priviledged information about their friends as this is proof that they are indeed special and loved and to be kept informed about what their friends are up to. Two's naturally involve themselves in other people's lives, concerned, as they are, with relationship.

The problem is that they can go too far. A healthy and helpful interest in a friend's life may slip into interfering and gossip. If the Two knows some privileged information about a friend they may communicate it to others as a way of proving their closeness to that friend and although there may be genuine concern on their part they can also get caught up in the image of showing concern. Needless to say this can create friction with their loved ones who may see the Two as meddling in their life and the lives of others. In addition no-one wants to share information confidentially which they feel is in safe hands, only to find out that it has been shared.
