The Sexual Instinct

The Sexual instinct is often misunderstood. It is not about being sexier or having more relationships or sex than the other instinctual variants although it may be part of the picture. It is really about following attractions and looking for a certain intensity of feeling. People for whom the Sexual instinct is dominant pursue what interests them in life, they go with what attracts them, irrespective of where it may lead - or not, as the case may be. It is very important that they are in some way 'taken' by something - whether that be a person, their job, a piece of music, an idea, aeroplanes, whatever. They are looking for a certain energy charge so could be said to be looking for juice wherever it is they find it. In turn, they are also more interested in attracting others to them for the same reason. There is a little bit more 'edge' in those for whom the Sexual instinct is dominant as they are more adventurous and exploratory than the other instinctive variants, going out and actively looking for things of interest, something to catch their fancy, whether that be a new project, an artist they have read about, another country, a new partner...
If the personality is unhealthy then there will be exaggerated behaviour in this regard. There can be a careening from one enthusiastic new idea or experience to another without much direction or stability or, alternatively, there can be a getting hung up on something or someone, a fixation that can become obsessive and unproductive. There may be an avoidant or fearful attitude towards relationships or sex or there may be many sexual partners and difficulty in making relationships work.
If the Sexual instinct is the least developed in a person there may be a tendency to get stuck in routines. They may not feel particularly passionate or excited about anything, or, if they are, they can feel it is trivial or decadent to spend time pursuing such things. As a result, however, they can tend to feel that everyone else has a more exciting life or is having more fun than they are.
