The One: A gift for doing the right thing

Ones are oriented towards what is right. They have a strong moral compass which means that integrity and doing the right thing are important to them. They will stand alone, if necessary, in their belief of right action. Even if their actions may later prove to have not been the best thing to do, they will at least have believed, at the time, that they were doing the right thing. That is important because no-one is always right, not even a One - we are all human after all - but no-one tries harder than a One to do what is right in a given situation. They strive to be objective, fair, responsible and ethical - in short, beyond reproach.

This desire to do the right thing can get Ones in trouble however. They may find they are side-lined because they are unwilling to compromise or participate in something that they judge not to be quite correct. They may find themselves viewed as pedantic or as troublemakers when they stand up against something which their conscience obliges them to stand against. They can sometimes put principles before people and in so doing put their relationships under strain. Their insistence on setting and upholding standards is very admirable - Michelle Obama once famously said, 'when they go low, we go high' - but it is not easy for them to live with. They apply the same high standards to themselves and give themselves a very hard time by way of reproach and self-criticism if they feel they are falling short in some way. They often have to learn to be kinder and more forgiving of any shortcomings.
