The primary fear of the Nine is of separation, fragmentation and loss. The principle desire of the Nine is therefore for unity, wholeness and peace. This means they are natural mediators and harmonisers and will work with others to ensure things remain without conflict. When they are healthy they engage fully with life but when they are less present they do not want to deal with life's vicissitudes and have a tendency to detach from what is going on around them, retreating into a sort of inner sanctum, somewhere cosy and safe from where they can pretend the real world doesn't exist. This 'zoning out' from what is going on around them means that the Nine may be 'there' physically but it is obvious to others that they are not 'there' emotionally or mentally. Nothing seems to affect them, even when it should. The very unhealthy Nine goes through the paces of life rather than actually living it. They have become the shadow of a self - separated even from themselves - which has the effect of making other people feel separated from them, with a real sense of fragmentation and loss - the loss of connection to the Nine who has become shut off and unreachable.
