For Nines to watch for

Nines are easygoing, have a sunny disposition and are generally calm. They want things to be without conflict or problems in order to maintain an external and internal peace. In order to do this, however, they tune out things that they don't want to deal with or know about. This may bring them some relief in the short term but it leads to a numbing of their feelings and a disengagement from what is going on around them. It is a metaphorical shutting up shop and an opting out of life. This results in an 'affectless' quality about them. In short, nothing disturbs them even when it should. At this stage they are physically present but they are not emotionally present which makes them very hard to 'reach' and the impression for those around them is that of an absence instead of a presence, of someone going through the motions of life, rather than actually living it. The proverbial 'couch potato' is a good example of this - the person who lets life pass them by. This has the effect of cutting off those around them which can be very isolating and frustrating for friends and loved ones. It is also the opposite of what Nines really want which is to feel connected and whole in this life.
