The Direction of Integration for the Six is to Nine. This means that when the Six is relaxed and secure, they take on behaviours of the healthy Nine. Sixes have a natural ambivalence and tendency to doubt everything and so find it very difficult to trust - both themselves and others - so the move to Nine is about them becoming more trusting. As they begin to trust themselves more, so they begin to trust others. As they do so they are able to overcome their tendency to be dependent on authority figures or structures for their security and so become more autonomous. As a result, instead of seeking out reassurance and support from outside sources, they are able to give it to others. As they overcome their self-doubt and its accompanying reactivity, they gain an optimism and emotional stability which, more than simply keeping their fearfulness and anxiety under control, actively brings a sense of calm. This, in turn, leads them to feel more assured and happier. In short, they find within themselves the security they have been looking for.
