The Virtue of the Nine

Being as the Virtue of each Type is the antidote to its Passion we have to look first at what the Passion of the Type is and how it manifests. The Passion of the Nine is Sloth which is not really laziness as Nines can be very active. It is more about a certain non-engagement with life. Nines, when they are fixated in their passion, let life happen to them rather than being an active participant and making things happen for themselves. It is as though they don't feel they have any agency over life and so just go along with it, accepting whatever may happen without getting involved with it. However, when they become aware of this tendency in themselves and start to understand it, they become less passive, more self-determining and engaged in their lives and what is happening around them. Hence their Virtue is Engagement. As mentioned in my previous post, it is not so much that each Type tries to become virtuous, it is simply that through the transforming of their passion with awareness and understanding, their behaviour changes naturally and the Virtue arises.
