The Virtue of the Two

In order to understand the Virtue of the Two, as with the other Types, we have to look at the Passion and the Passion of the Two is Pride. Pride has a couple of aspects in the Two. Firstly, Pride doesn't let us admit to our own suffering. Pride pretends that we don't have needs and that we are doing OK even when we're not. Twos do not like to acknowledge their own needs, preferring instead to focus on the needs and hurts of others. Whilst this is in many ways very admirable, denying our own needs actually builds up problems and resentment in the long run. Secondly, Pride in Twos also resides in their wanting to be seen as wholly selfless and generous, self-sacrificial even - as only and entirely good. The selflessness of Twos, therefore, tends to call attention to itself in order to be noticed and to receive praise for it. There is a seeking of validation that they are indeed selfless. The reality, however, is that none of us is wholly selfless, wholly good but the Pride of the Two does not want to admit this to themselves or others.

However, when Twos become aware of their Passion, the awareness works to dissolve it and the Two is able to do good without seeking approval for it. They are able to think of others and respond to their needs (or not!) as and when they feel called without forcing help on others. And so the Two accesses their Virtue which is Humility. Real humility is not putting yourself down or being overly modest. It is really about simply being, rather than forcing anything. With real humility we do not need to defend or promote an aspect of ourselves. We simply are.
