When the Four goes to Two

The Direction of Disintegration for the Four is towards Two. So when Fours are under stress or pressure they act out behaviours of the average to unhealthy Two. Fours feel different and as a result their sense of identity forms around the idea of difference to the extent that they can end up excluding themselves from anything they deem to be ordinary or normal. This puts them on the outside and they see themselves as outsiders but though they may want to be alone in their difference (if they are not alone in their particular difference they aren't truly different), they don't, however, want to be alone in life. The move to Two can be seen as their attempt to row back from the situation they have got themselves in having alienated themselves from everybody with their wilful exemption and fairly minimal sense of social obligation. Initially they may spend a lot of time indulging in romantic fantasies about themselves and others but as time goes on they want to be reassured that they have not alienated everyone. They realise they need support from others to continue their 'artistic' lifestyle and so become manipulative in their attempts to get attention. They find ways to be needed to keep others close and then point out to them what they have done for them. They become people-pleasing and possessive and eventually, believing that they have suffered enough, entitled to receive love and have all their needs met which leads them to coerce others to look after them.
