The Direction of Disintegration for the Eight is to Five so when Eights are under stress or pressure they act out some of the behaviours of average to unhealthy Fives. Even average Eights dominate their environment. They are energetic, action-oriented, take on challenges and impulsively assert themselves. This can, however, lead them into situations where they get in over their heads or go totally off course. The movement to Five sees them suddenly retreating from the fray and hunkering down. They feel they will maintain their power more effectively, and be safer, by being a little more 'hidden' and premeditating their moves. So they retreat into thinking and strategising, start to gather information and to plan. This withdrawal can lead to them becoming isolated, emotionally detached and secretive. At this point they also become provocative and cynical, seeing the world as a very harsh, dark place. They reject society - preferring, instead, to trust in their own will and wits for survival - and aggressively lash out at anyone who they feel has betrayed them. As they become more antisocial, hiding out with their fears, they increasingly feel like an outsider, At this stage their fearfulness combined with a contempt for human weakness makes them ruthless.
