The Passion of the Seven

The passion of the Seven is gluttony. Sevens are the enthusiasts of life. They like variety and get involved in trying lots of different things in their quest to really experience life to the full because their primary fear in life is of being deprived, of suffering, of being without. As a result they tend to throw themselves into things and, because they can't bear to be bored, they start to project themselves ahead into the next experience in order to stave it off. The problem with this is that they can find themselves never living in the present moment as they are, in effect, ahead of themselves. They may be at a wonderful party but if they are thinking about the next wonderful thing that they are going to be doing, thinking about the next holiday they want to book up or anticipating some other pleasurable experience that is on their horizon, they are not fully present at the party. This way of living, as Sevens discover, is not very satisfying and they start to compensate for this by wanting more. Subconsciously they feel that by having more of what they want they will feel full but having more does not solve the problem if they are not present enough in the moment to appreciate it. As we have seen with all the other Types, their passion leads them further away from what they want. Instead of leading the Seven to a feeling of fulfilment, it leads them away from it. Their appetite for experience, for more of what they like or want - living by their 'pleasure principle' - has become insatiable. Nothing they have or do is ever enough. Instead of feeling full, they never feel full enough and so are unhappy.
