The Energiser

As I mentioned in my last post, each Type plays a social role. This is evident in the average levels downwards. The average role of the Seven is The Energiser. Sevens are fun and naturally optimistic people who feel that the party really starts when they enter the room and to an extent this is true because their need for excitement and energy means they pump energy and excitement into any gathering which makes things fun for other people too. However, problems arise when their identity starts to become wrapped up in this. They can feel it is their job to keep people 'up' all the time which inevitably puts a lot of pressure on them to be the fun, supercharged person that everybody likes and to suppress their real feelings. They can also come across to others as superficial or inauthentic because, after all, nobody is fun all the time. So they can find that they are not taken seriously or, worse, that others find their manic over-stimulated behaviour tiresome and irritating. Sevens often interpret others lack of enthusiasm as being 'negative' and see it as rejection and so move on to pastures new - pastures new (in the Seven's mind) always being more exciting and fun. This, in turn, helps them play out - and so reinforces them - in their social role as the energiser. And so it goes on.
