Sixes, in the average levels down, take on the social role of the Dutiful Worker. Sixes, being the most security-oriented of the types, want to shore up their lives to be a safe bet. They do this by being responsible, hard-working and loyal. feeling that being all of these things will earn them the security they crave. And of course it certainly helps. They define themselves by their allegiances and commitments and seek to strengthen their position with authorities often investing in particular beliefs or systems.

However, the downside of this is that they can over-commit themselves and then get stressed trying to hold everything together. Being naturally doubting and mistrusting, their putting in the time, energy, and hours inevitably starts to raise questions. They start to wonder if they are being taken advantage of. Perhaps, if they didn't work so hard, they would be got rid of etc. So all their engagement, hard work and responsibility actually starts to increase their anxiety and insecurity. This, ironically, means that they can sometimes stay in unhappy situations longer than the other types simply because their increased anxiety and stress makes them afraid that if they let it go they will not find something/anyone better. But no-one can avoid risk. Although we may have some control over certain aspects of our lives, much of life is uncertain and unpredictable and ultimately none of us, as Sixes learn, will find security outside ourselves if we are insecure within..
