The Dutiful Types (sometimes called the Compliant Types) are the One, Two and Six. These Types move towards others, wanting to be of service to them. They are the committed workers, advocates, public servants. It is important to note that these Types are not necessarily dutiful to others but, rather, are dutiful to their super-egos. The super-ego is the part of the psyche that is responsible for the moral conscience of a person and is particularly strong in these three Types who internalise the principles and rules they learn while young. As a result, when faced with any given situation, they ask themselves 'what should I do?'

When these Types enter a room of strangers they tend to feel that they are 'better than' others but this is subtle. Ones, for example, may subconsciously be very critical of something such as the room or the catering, or whatever. Even if they may have reason to be critical they are, in effect, putting themselves on a superior level with the unspoken assumption being that they would do it all better Twos subconsciously look at everyone and think that they look troubled, need some help and feel the need to rescue them from their plights. This, however, also puts them on a superior level as they are, in effect, saying 'you need saving and I can save you'.

Sixes are a little bit more complicated as they naturally suffer from a sense of inferiority so tend to find their sense of being better than others through their allegiances. For example 'I support this organisation which is better than that organisation' or 'I come from this town which is better than that town'.

A concern for doing the right thing combined with the desire to be of service to others means that these three Types can often end up becoming authority figures in some way.
