Getting to know ourselves

Caroline Myss writes in her new book 'Intimate Conversations with the Divine' that 'One of the more incomprehensible truths in life is that we are strangers to ourselves'. It makes me think of icebergs. That there is so much more beneath the surface than we see, than we know. That we can spend so much time looking at others and comparing ourselves to them, wishing we were more (or less) like them or wondering how we can best compete with them and yet how little time we spend, in comparison, getting to know who we are. We are a huge unknown quantity to ourselves. Think about that. Is it any wonder we make poor decisions or find ourselves living a lifestyle that doesn't agree with us or seems so alien to us, so disconnected from our heart? That we feel confused and all at sea (as it were). Caroline Myss makes the point that 'We are never finished getting to know ourselves'. She's right. Who we are is the mystery and the quest of our lifetime.
