Finding the gateway

The Enneagram has been, for me, the gateway into a much more spiritual life even though, when I started off studying it, it was the fact that it seemed so deeply grounded in the reality of human nature that was of interest to me, that it spoke of behaviours and attitudes which could so clearly be seen within myself, in those around me and in the world at large. It seemed to me to speak a truth about human behaviour which is that it is not haphazard or random. That there is in fact a structure to it even if that structure may not be apparent - which it isn't really because, as the Enneagram shows, the structure lies in our primary fear which creates a primary desire and therefore a motivation and our motivation is not always clear (even to ourselves!)

But now it's the spiritual aspect of the Enneagram that pulls me more. What is beyond ego? What are the other forces that operate in all of us? The energies, the callings, the passions that come from... where? Those forces that allow us to reach for, and be touched by, something beyond ourselves.

We all have to find our own gateway to the mystery, to that 'other' which has the ability to touch the personal and universal in each of us. I think this manifests as our life's purpose. No-one else can find it for us because it is a very individual path - something that is uniquely ours. But you know when you find it because it leads into the whole.
